Residential Rooftop Solar

Residential · 1–10 kW

PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana

Government of India — rooftop solar for every household

Up to ₹78,000
Direct Subsidy

The flagship Central Government initiative for grid-connected rooftop solar, covering residential systems from 1 kW to 10 kW. The subsidy is disbursed as a direct bank transfer within 30–45 days of DISCOM commissioning.

Eligibility

  • Indian resident with a suitable rooftop for installation
  • Valid electricity connection with the local DISCOM
  • Subsidy tiers: ₹30,000 (1 kW) · ₹60,000 (2 kW) · ₹78,000 (3 kW and above)

Application Process

  1. Register at pmsuryaghar.gov.in
  2. Submit state, DISCOM and consumer number details
  3. Engage an MNRE-empanelled installer such as Pahal Solar
  4. Subsidy is credited following DISCOM inspection and approval
Nodal Agency: MNRE / DISCOM
Gujarat State

SURYA Gujarat & Net Metering

GEDA — state-level facilitation and billing credit

Bill Credit
State Benefit

Gujarat implements PM Surya Ghar through the SURYA Gujarat portal alongside its own GEDA net-metering policy. This allows surplus daytime generation to be exported to the grid and credited against the electricity bill, applicable across all four state DISCOMs — UGVCL, DGVCL, PGVCL and MGVCL.

Eligibility

  • Property located within a Gujarat DISCOM service area
  • Solar system commissioned under PM Surya Ghar
  • No outstanding electricity dues

Application Process

  1. Visit the GEDA website or the relevant DISCOM portal
  2. File the net-metering application alongside the solar installation
  3. DISCOM conducts a final inspection and activates the meter
Nodal Agency: GEDA / GUVNL

Agricultural & Irrigation

PM-KUSUM · Component C

Solarisation of Existing Pumps

Converting grid-connected agricultural pumps to solar

~60%
Subsidy

Farmers with an existing grid-connected irrigation pump can convert it to solar power under Component C. Surplus electricity generated can be sold to the DISCOM at a fixed tariff, creating an additional income stream.

Eligibility

  • Existing grid-connected agricultural pump
  • Valid agricultural land records (7/12 extract, 8A khata)
  • Access to a functioning water source

Application Process

  1. Apply through the state nodal energy agency (GEDA in Gujarat)
  2. Submit land and pump documentation
  3. Installation is carried out by an empanelled vendor once allotted
Nodal Agency: State Renewable Energy Agency
PM-KUSUM · Component B

New Standalone Solar Pumps

For off-grid farmland · 3 HP to 10 HP

60%
Subsidy

Designed for farmland with no grid access, this scheme replaces diesel-powered pumps with new solar-powered irrigation pumps. A combined 30% central and 30% state subsidy reduces the farmer's contribution to approximately 10% of system cost, with the remainder available through bank financing.

Eligibility

  • No existing grid-connected pump on the field
  • Proof of agricultural land ownership
  • Priority given to farmers replacing diesel pumps

Application Process

  1. Apply through the state nodal energy agency portal
  2. Select the required pump capacity (2 HP to 10 HP)
  3. Confirm installation upon payment of the farmer contribution
Nodal Agency: MNRE / State Energy Agency
PM-KUSUM · Component A

Solar Power Plants on Farmland

500 kW – 2 MW · guaranteed rental income

Rental Income
Guaranteed

Landowners with barren or underutilised agricultural land can host a decentralised, ground-mounted solar power plant and sell the generated electricity to the DISCOM. This provides a guaranteed rental or lease income while allowing continued agricultural use of the land under an agrivoltaics model.

Eligibility

  • Individual farmers, water-user associations, cooperatives, or panchayats
  • Barren or low-yield land is preferred
  • Land located within approximately 5 km of a substation is favourable

Application Process

  1. Submit land details to the DISCOM or state nodal agency
  2. Approval is granted following a grid-feasibility assessment
  3. A Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) is signed with the DISCOM
Nodal Agency: State DISCOM / MNRE

Commercial & Industrial Scale

Gujarat GREP · MSME & Industry

Commercial & Industrial Solar Policy

Unrestricted capacity, tax incentives, open access

40%
Accelerated Depreciation

Under the Gujarat Integrated Renewable Energy Policy (GREP), factories, MSMEs and large industrial consumers can access significant regulatory relief and tax benefits. Surplus power may be sold to the DISCOM at a fixed rate, and there is no upper limit on system capacity, subject to grid feasibility.

Key Benefits

  • 40% accelerated depreciation on capital expenditure
  • Tax exemption under Section 80-IA of the Income Tax Act
  • Zero Cross-Subsidy Surcharge, with unrestricted system capacity
  • Surplus power sale at ₹2.25/unit for the first 5 years

Application Process

  1. Submit a project proposal and load details to GEDA/GUVNL
  2. File for open access or group-captive registration
  3. Installation proceeds following technical feasibility approval
Nodal Agency: GEDA / GUVNL / GERC
